Oral and maxillofacial surgery - in a safe and secure atmosphere

Dental surgery

At TandreguleringKBH, we offer highly specialized surgical dental treatments with a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery. We strive to create a safe and secure atmosphere for our surgical patients, ensuring they feel as well taken care of as our other orthodontic patients.

There are several professional and practical advantages to having two specialties under one roof. This benefits both us as practitioners and our patients. When it comes to choosing treatment, there are many aspects to consider. The interdisciplinary cooperation between orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery allows us to collaborate across areas of expertise, enabling us to navigate treatment options as effectively as possible.

Treatments

We offer a wide range of treatments within dental, oral, and maxillofacial surgery. Sometimes, tooth extraction is necessary to achieve the best functional bite and desired aesthetic result when undergoing orthodontic treatment. This may be to create more space on both sides of the jaw or to correct asymmetry in the number of teeth on either side. In some cases, people are born with too many teeth, while in other cases, the jaw is too small to accommodate the normal number of teeth. These situations are evaluated by our specialists in orthodontics and maxillofacial surgery, who work together to develop a treatment plan in collaboration with the patient. This ensures the best and most durable results.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to emerge, typically during the teenage years. Some people experience no issues with them, while others find that they grow in at an angle, which can lead to damage to neighboring teeth, infections, or pain. It may be necessary to remove wisdom teeth if they cause problems such as cavities, infections, or bone loss. If wisdom teeth are fully erupted, painless, and healthy, they can often be left in place. Preventive removal may be considered if there is a risk of future problems or a need for orthodontic treatment.

I need to have my wisdom teeth removed.
How does the procedure work, and what can I expect afterward?
The procedure

Wisdom tooth removal typically takes 10-20 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia to ensure the procedure is pain-free. In certain cases where local anesthesia is not appropriate, general anesthesia may be used.

After the procedure

The local anesthesia will numb the area for several hours after the procedure. We recommend starting pain relief medication before the anesthesia wears off. Most patients need pain relief for 4-5 days. Pain relief medication is usually over-the-counter and can be discussed with our specialist.

Wound care

With a complete 3D-scan of your teeth, our orthodontists will design a unique and appropriate treatment. From the 3D-scan a simulation video is made demonstrating the movement of your teeth at the beginning and towards your perfect smile.

Our professionals are all trained specialists in orthodontics from The University of Copenhagen. They have the necessary professional knowledge and experience to plan and supervise each individual step of the treatment plan and thereby preventing crucial deviations from the treatment goal.

The simulation of your treatment will be made available to you by email. You need only say GO! And enjoy the ride.

Physical activity

Avoid physical activity for the first two days to minimize the risk of bleeding.

Diet

Eat soft and cold meals on the first day, and avoid chewing in the operated area.

Swelling and pain

Swelling is common and usually peaks on the second day. If the swelling or pain worsens, or if you experience difficulty swallowing or a fever, contact the clinic or seek medical help.

Post-operative bleeding

Light bleeding may occur during the first 24 hours and can be controlled by placing a dampened gauze pad over the wound and holding it in place for about 15 minutes. This can be repeated as needed. If the bleeding persists or increases, contact the clinic or seek medical help.
