Orthodontic treatment

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a technique used to change the position of the teeth in order to achieve a more harmonious smile and improve dental function. Orthodontics may be necessary in many cases of misalignment, overbite, underbite, or other issues. Orthodontics is a process that uses biomechanical principles to correct the positioning of the teeth. By applying constant, controlled pressure on the teeth, the bone tissue around the teeth is stimulated to adapt, allowing the teeth to gradually shift.

Qualified orthodontists play a crucial role in this process. With their knowledge, they can design a customized treatment plan to ensure that the teeth move correctly and efficiently.

Crooked teeth

Why do people get crooked teeth?

There are several reasons why people develop crooked teeth. These can range from genetics to bad habits that contribute to misaligned teeth. The most common cause of crooked teeth that we see is genetics. Your genes can determine the size and shape of your teeth and jaw, both of which play a significant role in how your teeth are positioned. If your parents or close family members have had crooked teeth or bite problems, you are more likely to experience the same.

Timing for Treatment

When is the best time to start treatment?

It can be difficult to determine the optimal time to begin orthodontic treatment, both for you and your child. In some cases, a child’s natural growth can be utilized to correct bite issues, which can make the treatment both faster and less complicated. However, it is never too late to start orthodontic treatment – we offer many treatment methods and have extensive experience with both children and adults. To find the right time and the best treatment method, we recommend booking a consultation, where we can provide personalized guidance.

Economy

What does it cost?

It, of course, depends on your needs. In the case of a simple irregular tooth in one jaw, around 20-25,000 kr.

If it involves teeth in both the upper and lower jaw it’s approx. 35-45,000 kr.

A more complicated treatment in which teeth, functionality and tooth extraction are to be considered, you should estimate a cost of 45-55,000 kr.

Invisalign price

How much does it cost to get clear aligners?

Both Invisalign and traditional braces are effective treatments for teeth straightening, but they differ significantly in price. Invisalign, known for its discretion with clear plastic aligners, can cost between 18,000 and 50,000 DKK depending on the complexity of the treatment. They are often considered more comfortable and practical since they are removable. This can often facilitate better oral hygiene and, in some cases, lead to faster treatment. Traditional braces can sometimes be more budget-friendly, but with prices ranging from 15,000 to 90,000 DKK, this is not always the case. The price of these treatments depends on the type of treatment, duration, and the condition of your teeth. To get a comprehensive assessment of these factors, you can book a free consultation with our specialist for a no-obligation quote.

Palate expander

What is a palate expander?

A palate expander is designed to fit snugly in the upper or lower jaw of the patient. Its primary function is to apply even and precise pressure on specific areas of the jaw or teeth that require adjustment. This method not only helps correct misaligned teeth but also promotes better oral hygiene through improved dental positioning.

Activator brace

What is an activator brace?

The activator brace is a removable device made of acrylic and steel wires, designed to correct bite issues by adjusting the relationship between the lower and upper jaws. This type of orthodontic treatment is most common among children and adolescents, as it takes advantage of growth periods to achieve the best results. Scissors bite

What is a scissors bite?

A scissors bite is a type of dental misalignment where the upper and lower arches do not meet correctly when the mouth is closed. In this bite, the upper teeth are positioned further forward than the lower teeth, creating a shift in the bite pattern. This condition can affect both the front teeth and the molars, leading to significant issues with chewing ability, speech, and dental hygiene.

Overbite

What is an overbite?

A slight overbite of around three millimeters is normal and often does not require treatment. Overbites that do not exceed five to six millimeters and are not combined with a deep bite often correct themselves. Larger overbites of more than eight millimeters should be treated early. If the lower lip gets caught behind the upper front teeth, the overbite can worsen by up to two millimeters per year, increasing the risk of teeth injuries from impacts or falls.

Early orthodontic treatment with braces can correct an overbite and prevent long-term problems such as damage of teeth and gum.

Open bite

What is an open bite?

Open bite is a dental misalignment where the teeth do not meet correctly when the mouth is closed. This can occur either in the back teeth or the front teeth, resulting in a visible gap between the upper and lower jaws. This "openness" is what gives the condition its name.

Deep bite

What is a deep bite?

A deep bite is a condition where the upper front teeth significantly overlap the lower front teeth. This can lead to various dental problems and affect both the aesthetics and function of your bite. Understanding the treatment options and causes of a deep bite can help you take the necessary steps to correct this dental issue.

During treatment

Comfort

Does it hurt?

It does not hurt to wear braces. However, one should expect that the teeth may get sore up to one week after the braces are put on. When the braces are tightened, one should also expect a little bit of discomfort.

Food and eating

What can you eat with braces?

Wearing braces naturally involves some adjustments to your daily routine, especially when it comes to food choices. Once you have braces, your eating habits can become a bit more challenging. Many foods that you could previously enjoy without issues may now potentially damage the braces or cause discomfort. It's important to know which foods to avoid and what precautions to take when eating with braces.

Health

Do you loose weight?

Some loose weight at the beginning of the treatment, as their appetite is affected by the irritation of the new environment. The braces can make meals difficult to consume at the beginning. However, this is just a transition.

Time

How long is the treatment time?

You should expect to wear braces for about 1½ to 2 years. It may be as little as one year for simple treatments and up to three years for more extensive procedures. The duration of treatment depends on various factors, including age, treatment method, and your own efforts.

After treament

Retainers

What happens when the braces are taken off at the end of your treatment?

The most important part of the treatment is initiated – maintaining the results! Every patient is provided with retainers. Typically, a removeable one for the upper jaw and a metal thread cemented onto the back of the 6 teeth in the front lower jaw.
